introduction

Recently, the rabbi of the Frankfurt Jewish community in Germany asked Rabbi Menachem Perl, head of the Tzomet Institute, about reading a scroll in the days of the Corona.

To his question, this year all the people of Israel will read the Megillah on Friday the 14th of Adar, but many Jews around the world will still not be able to gather and read the Megillah in the majority of the people. On the other hand, it will be possible to read the Megillah The scroll. Is this permissible?

Now Rabbi Pearl has issued a detailed answer, which coordinates the halakhic discussions around the issue and brings the halakhic, with special reference to the complexity and the various challenges that the days of the Corona bring with them.

The essence of the mitzvah

The miracle of Purim, the hidden divine providence, through human thoughts and tricks and small and big politics, and saving our people, created one of the special days of the year, so much so that some sages referred to the divine enlightenment revealed on this day as the highest of the whole year. All the people of Israel celebrate it with boundary-breaking joy. One of the most central commandments on this day is the reading of the Book of Esther and "all are obligated to read it, men and women and strangers and slaves;

And educate the little ones to happen to it "(Shu'a or Tarfat, a). The duty to read is from a kosher parchment scroll. It is important to gather in one place and hear the entire scroll from the person reading it.

Gathering in the Corona Age

But because of the plague we have, since the previous Purim, refrained from gathering in one closed place, we must find alternative ways to multiply the publication of the miracle by reading the scroll.

The king's way, is to gather in the street minions, a number of people who can hear the reader's voice, choose a reader whose voice goes far, and strive more than every year, to hold in our hands a kosher parchment scroll, in order to read together with the reader.

It would be more appropriate for isolators and corona patients that a volunteer read the scroll near a window or door so that they can hear from a kosher scroll (a scroll intended for others should not be brought into the isolated room and certainly not the patient, for hygiene and infection reasons).

But it turns out that they will be isolated and sick that there will be no one to read for them.

The network ostensibly provides a wonderful solution, it will be possible to listen to a public reading, and read the scroll together with the reader.

Bless the first three blessings before reciting, but the last blessing is practiced only in public (Shu'a Tarzav, a). Shared reading through the network, even if it is live, is not considered public reading. Public reading is precisely how many people (Shu'a Tirz, 18) grouped in one place.

Since, according to Halacha, "ten in one place and say Kaddish and Kaddisha, even those who are not with them can answer," The

reading of the Megillah - 'Hearing as a season' is precisely when he hears from a person who is obligated to mitzvah, according to many arbitrators do not go out of their way to listen to the Megillah by electronic means. In front of them the scroll, in an open place or behind a door, etc., will try to listen to the reading of the scroll on the radio or network (zoom or any similar application) etc. live, hold a scroll [highly desirable, kosher] and read with the public messenger word for word. God forbid that either can not, will try to listen as his owner call.

artist - in fact, most authorities agree permitted to answer Amen Congratulations broadcast live.

Age corona challenging us very subject closeness between people, along with the count in one place, sending packets, and more At the Purim meal, apparently today, it must not be held in a family connection

Together.

This is where sound and mirror applications and software (zoom and the like) can give something of a sense of togetherness.

Each family will sit at home and unite with their more distant friends and family, raise a glass of wine together and pray for a year of health and creativity, joy and routine.

Many of us have been very badly affected by the corona, some who have fallen ill and been healed, some have fallen ill and have not yet been healed, some have scars left on their bodies or souls from the disease, and some have died prematurely.

Others are deprived of their source of livelihood, and some have had their peace of mind undermined.

Let us remember the main mitzvah on Purim - "preferably Ladm Lhrbot Bmtnot Abionim Mlhrbot Bsadto and Bsloh portions Lraio. Sain Sm Smhh Gdolh and Mfarh Ala Lsmh heart Aniim and Itomim and Almnot and Grim. Shmsmh heart Hamllim Halo Domh Lscinh" (Laws scroll CHAPTER went XVII ) - "The Jews had light and joy and Shashan was precious" - yes we will always have.
