Engineers of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation and the Israel Antiquities Authority have injected special materials into the stones, as part of routine maintenance and preservation operations.

In the shadow of the corona, the health of the Western Wall is also maintained: in preparation for the worshipers' visit to the Western Wall on the upcoming Passover holiday, a material is injected into the stones to maintain their resilience in order to maintain the safety of the crowd.

In the days of the last closure, they began a series of injection operations to preserve the Western Wall.

Every six months, before Passover and Tishrei, engineers from the Western Wall Heritage Foundation and the Antiquities Authority preserve thorough inspections of the Western Wall stones in the prayer plaza, in order to ensure the safety of visitors.

The work carried out at the site is carried out according to the halakhic instructions of the Rabbi of the Western Wall, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, after dealing with the subject about 18 years ago with the great men of Israel, headed by the late Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv.

The director general of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, Mordechai (Solly) Eliav, said: "Every year, more than 12 million people come to the Western Wall plaza.

Although this year in the shadow of the corona more and more people have connected remotely to the Western Wall, we are already preparing for the return of the locals.

"The Western Wall Heritage Foundation is doing everything in its power to maintain the stability of the stones for the safety of worshipers and visitors."

Yossi Vaknin, who is responsible for the preservation of the Western Wall area in the Israel Antiquities Authority: "The Western Wall stones wear out naturally, and we take care to strengthen them. This is a non-invasive operation, which protects the Western Wall from time. Each of them has an 'identity card' with us, with dozens of characteristics monitored.

"The latest survey we conducted showed that treatment was needed to strengthen the outer layer of several stones. The work we do on the important wall is non-destructive work: they do not drill into the stone surface, and are done by gently injecting the stone composition into the cavities and cracks.

"The material is injected in a liquid, and when it dries, the crack coalesces. This is the most perfect 'stitching' that can be. The ultimate vaccine for the world's most important stones against the ravages of time."

Among the significant factors in the weathering of the walls of the Temple Mount is the ecosystem that is an integral part of the landscape of the ancient wall.

"The Western Wall is from an ecological space that maintains a life unique to it," says Vaknin.

"On the stones of the Western Wall there is a lot of vegetation, which takes root in the stones, especially of the sniper, Syrian peephole and golden intoxication type.

"In addition, many winged birds nest in the Western Wall, including the wall squirrel, crows and pigeons. As part of the conservation work, recognizing the importance of the unique flora and fauna of the place, we maintain this system and at the same time ensure the stability of the stones. a year ahead".
