No more books have appeared about any historical figure than about Adolf Hitler. There are biographies of
Hitler's photographer
, his lawyer, chauffeur, personal doctor and chief rologist,
the secretary
and the
diet cook
.
About his family from grandmother to
half-nephew
, even about alleged children - but none about his father.
Until now.

Roman Sandgruber
(born 1947) is a professor emeritus and headed the Institute for Social and Economic History at the University of Linz.
It was probably due to the lack of sources. Now the Austrian historian Roman Sandgruber has published "Hitler's Father". Previously, all publications on Hitler's childhood and youth were based on only three detailed writings with questionable truth content - Hitler's own propaganda pamphlet
“Mein Kampf”
and two from the 1950s: Franz Jetzinger's depiction “Hitler's Youth” (1956) and August Kubizek's contemporary witness report “Hitler , my childhood friend ”(1953).
SPIEGEL:
Mr. Sandgruber, does Hitler's father need to be corrected?
Sandgruber:
Alois Hitler was often portrayed as a simple peasant booby who only sat in the pub and raised bees.
But there was more to it than that, namely a considerable agricultural commitment.
And sitting in a pub was more important because he wanted to be politically active and all political work took place in the pub back then.
The new discoveries give a completely different view of Adolf Hitler's childhood and his father.
