Better two coats of arms than another clock

Dorfen - A decent clock is to adorn the facade of the Dorfen town hall.

Hobby historian Franz Streibl doesn't like that.

He has a different idea.

Local historian Franz Streibl has a plan: He would like to see the Bavarian and Dorfen coats of arms on the “bare place” of the Dorfen town hall facade.

A hand drawing from 1799 will serve as a template.

Only the clock is missing at the new Dorfen town hall.

“The architects flatly reject anything dominant here,” said Mayor Heinz Grundner (CSU) recently in the building and transport committee.

A subtle, classic watch - as it can actually be seen in the planning - is possible.

The councilors in the committee agreed that a design proposal for a classic clock should be obtained.

Streibl sees it differently.

“We already have three clocks in Dorfen.

We don't need another one at the town hall, ”says the chairman of the historical circle and lists: at the market church, at the Schmidbauer electronics store across from the town hall and last but not least at the parish church.

"Another watch, then it will look like the train station."

While rummaging through a friend's attic, Agnes and Franz Streibl found a city map, dated 1698, revised in 1799. Geometer Manhart made this hand drawing, says Streibl.

The document shows the town center with all the gates, but also the gardens of the birch avenue.

And at the top in the corner there are two coats of arms - the Bavarian one with white and blue diamonds and the Dorfen one.

This shows three town houses covered in red.

“We have already shown the coat of arms to some people.

Everyone liked it, ”says Agnes Streibl.

Her husband thinks: "This landmark would have a nice place on the facade of the town hall." As an alternative, he can also imagine a portrait of a pigeon, with a modern design.

Because: "Where the town hall is today, the Taubenmarkt used to be," he explains with a wink.

Franz Streibl has another concern.

“The committee also discussed designing the area in front of the town hall with green areas and seating plus additional bicycle parking spaces,” he complains.

From his point of view, this would have fatal consequences for retail in the city center: "If there are no more parking spaces, people no longer go to the bakery or butcher here, but go straight to the discounters or supermarkets in the industrial park."
