(CNN Spanish) -

The National Congress of Honduras reformed a law approved in December that authorizes the government of Juan Orlando Hernández to buy vaccines against covid-19 with the manufacturing laboratories or the companies that supply them.

The decision seeks to accelerate the arrival of vaccines to the country, which has not yet received a single dose of the Covax mechanism, created by the World Health Organization to guarantee access to immunizations for all countries.

A statement from the country's presidency establishes that purchases must be supervised by the Superior Court of Accounts and by the Consultative Council on Immunizations.

The president of the Medical College of Honduras, Suyapa Figueroa, assured CNN that this union is dissatisfied with the initiative, because in none of the articles of the law a ceiling is determined for the cost of purchasing the vaccine.
