Health and life sciences are closely related to our daily lives, covering medical and health care, food technology, chemistry, biotechnology and environmental sciences and other diversified majors. The digital development of the industry has become a trend.

The IVE Higher Diploma program incorporates technological elements, focusing on students’ diverse learning experiences.

Two graduates, Ouyang Jiajun (Ken) and Zhang Longjin, respectively devoted themselves to the majors of chemistry and medical laboratory testing, applying knowledge and skills to improve the quality of life for the society.

Served as a R&D engineer in a multinational chemical group to help promote 5G technology

5G (fifth generation mobile communication) technology brings faster and stable transmission speeds to mobile communications, and combining 5G technology with new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of things (IoT) brings epoch-making more to daily life change.

IVE Higher Diploma graduate Ouyang Jiajun (Ken) is currently working as a research and development engineer in a multinational chemical group. He uses his chemical expertise to develop materials and infrastructure suitable for 5G-related products and contributes to the smart city: "I am mainly responsible for research and development. Material technologies related to 5G communications will be covered from mobile phone products, circuit boards, system hardware configuration, and infrastructure.” Being able to participate in the research and development of new technologies started when Ken applied for the IVE Advanced Diploma based on interest.

Starting from interest and embarking on the road of chemical engineers

Ken was already interested in chemistry when he was in middle school. After graduation, he chose to study for IVE Advanced Diploma in Chemical Technology*.

"The professional knowledge I learned while studying at IVE, coupled with practical training, will be of great help to my further studies and career development." During his studies at IVE, Ken had the opportunity to get in touch with equipment that is comparable to the industry standard, and his internship experience helped him master the development of the industry. .

"At that time, I used the inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometer (ICP-OES) to analyze heavy metals in water quality. I also had the opportunity to practice in the Swiss General Notary (SGS), participate in analysis and write reports. The learning experience gained in the actual environment convinced me The direction of development is towards the road of chemical engineers."

The Advanced Diploma program is connected to the university to pursue a doctoral degree

After completing the Advanced Diploma, Ken was promoted to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry through "Non-JUPAS", and graduated with first-class honours, and then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Chemistry) degree.

With solid professional knowledge and brilliant academic qualifications, he served as a post-doctoral researcher at the Institute of Chemistry in Taiwan, responsible for research, development and identification of raw materials, and published the research in academic journals for scientific research and material application in various industries Provide an important reference; later he was hired by a multinational chemical group to use his professional knowledge to promote the development of chemical technology.

Scientific forensic aid diagnosis responds to industry needs with professional knowledge

Another graduate, Zhang Longjin, is currently an associate medical laboratory technologist in the histopathology and cell department of public medical institutions. He is mainly responsible for testing and analyzing patients’ tissue specimens, and through scientific verification, assisting doctors to make more accurate diagnosis and provide patients with Appropriate treatment plan.

Medical laboratory tests are an important part of the medical system. The industry attaches great importance to quality supervision procedures to ensure the quality of samples to provide accurate laboratory results.

"Due to the continuous advancement of medical technology, medical laboratory technicians also need to continue to learn to improve the knowledge of the latest laboratory methods and related technologies to meet the needs of the industry and society." Industry demand coupled with factors such as population aging, the industry is The demand for medical laboratory professionals is increasing.

IVE Foundation Course Diploma starts with a good professional foundation and moves towards a major in medical laboratory testing

Long Jin also shared his experience of entering higher education after graduating from high school. "The public examination results were mediocre, but I was not discouraged and chose to study for the IVE Foundation Course Diploma. The course inspired my interest in biology, and at the same time improved my language level for future professional Lay a good foundation for development."

Later, Long Jin was promoted to the IVE Advanced Diploma in Biomedicine and practiced what he learned in the classroom. At that time, he had the opportunity to get in touch with and apply the commonly used inspection equipment in the industry, such as the Fluorescence microscope, which uses energy wavelength light for cell analysis. Through internship, accumulate laboratory-related experience and gradually develop the profession.

After graduating from the Advanced Diploma, Long Jin was promoted to a Bachelor of Biomedicine from a local university.

He is currently studying for a master's degree in medical laboratory testing and continues to pursue his ideal major.

Long Jin hopes to share his own experience with DSE candidates, encourage students to explore their own talents, and lay a solid foundation for learning professional knowledge and skills through diversified pathways. The courses will gradually link up with higher academic qualifications and join the ideal profession."
