Germany thawed out quickly after the harsh cold.
According to the DWD: faster than ever since the beginning of the recordings.
After a lot of snow and icy cold, Germany is currently enjoying the most beautiful spring weather.
Researchers have now also confirmed this record change in the weather.
They calculated a historical temperature increase
(update from February 23, 9:50 p.m.)
.
However, the sudden increase in temperature has its
downsides (update from February 18, 2:18 p.m.).
Update from February 23, 9:50 p.m.:
First freezing frost, then sunshine and the most pleasant spring weather: within a few days, the weather in Germany has turned a real record.
Weather in Germany: Historical temperature rise - More than 40 degrees within a week
Climate researchers from the German Meteorological Service have now made an interesting calculation: According to them, the temperature has never - since the beginning of the recordings - risen as sharply within seven days as can be read from the confirmed readings from a weather station in Göttingen.
While a low of exactly minus 23.8 degrees was measured there on February 14th, the high on February 21st was 18.1 degrees.
All in all, this results in an increase of 41.9 degrees.
In order to find anything even remotely comparable, the scientists had to go far back in time: to May 1880, to be precise, the early days of weather records.
The previous record was set there.
At that time, a temperature increase of 41 degrees was measured within seven days, reports a spokesman for the German Weather Service (DWD).
Weather in Germany: Spring stays - lots of sun and pleasant temperatures
In northern Germany, two regional heat records were already measured on Monday: In Quickborn in Schleswig-Holstein the maximum value was 18.9 degrees and was thus above the record value of 17.8 degrees measured two years earlier.
In Hamburg, even 21.1 degrees were measured at the Neuwiedenthal weather station on Monday.
"For the first time since the beginning of temperature recordings, the temperature in Hamburg has risen above 20 degrees in winter," said the DWD spokesman.
The next few days will continue like spring in Germany: with lots of sun and warm temperatures of up to 20 degrees during the day - and light frost at night.
According to forecasts by the DWD, there will only be a small setback in the weather on Friday.
There it gets rainy and cloudy in many places in Germany.
Weather in Germany: Spring shows its most beautiful side - lots of sunshine
Update from February 21, 3:40 p.m .:
After frosty temperatures and endless snow, the weather this weekend shows its beautiful side.
High "Ilonka" will also provide weather for walks in the coming days with spring-like temperatures and lots of sunshine.
But that's not all, according to the German Weather Service (DWD), the 20-degree mark was cracked for the first time this year.
According to the meteorologists, 20.3 degrees were measured on Saturday afternoon in Müllheim near Freiburg.
"A change in the weather situation is not apparent until the coming weekend at the earliest," said the DWD.
"Ilonka" had established itself over Southeastern Europe and made no move to disappear from there.
Low pressure areas would have no chance of encroaching on Germany with their fronts.
The southerly current suggests unusually mild peaks in the coming days.
According to the DWD, the temperatures are between 12 and 18 degrees and there is a lot of sun.
With longer fog at the sea, it stays a little cooler there.
On the northern edges of the western and southwestern low mountain ranges and on the Upper Rhine, peak values of just over 20 degrees are possible.
The nights can get
slightly frosty,
especially in the south
.
Otherwise the temperatures are between nine and two degrees.
The DWD predicts up to ten hours of sunshine per day.
However, Saharan dust also reaches Germany, which makes the sky appear partly milky.
In the north there are now and then some cloud fields, but rain is the absolute exception.
Weather in Germany: dust cloud on the way to Europe - expert surprises with summer forecast
Update from February 20, 8:11 p.m
.: It's an up and down: After frost and snow, only a week later it's almost like summer - on Sunday, almost 20 degrees are possible on the northern edges of the western low mountain range!
Felix Dietzsch from the
German Weather Service (DWD)
said
on Saturday.
However, the meteorologist expects the climax of the warm phase on Monday or Tuesday: Then the 20 degree mark could be broken more frequently.
At first it will not be quite as warm in the eastern half of the country.
On Sunday, according to the DWD, usually only 14 or 15 degrees are reached.
"The thermometer only climbs towards 20 degrees here in the middle of the week," said Dietzsch.
Basically, it stays cooler along the North and Baltic Sea coasts.
Here the maximum temperatures will rise only just above the mark of 10 degrees in the course of the coming week.
"Only at the end of next week there are signals for precipitation again, until then, apart from a few drops in the far north, it will remain dry across the country," said the meteorologist.

Weather in Germany: dust cloud on the way to Europe - health consequences threaten
Update from February 19, 6:23 p.m
.: A sand and dust cloud from the Sahara is expected to reach Europe at the weekend.
"Plumes of dust from the desert can cause red skies, restricted visibility or stains on cars and windows from dust deposits," said Mark Parrington of the EU Earth observation program Copernicus on Friday.
Based on the wind forecasts, a spread from southern Europe to Norway is possible.
Because of the high concentrations of dust and sand particles, a deterioration in air quality and the associated health consequences are possible.
The cloud can probably be seen in the sky with the naked eye.
A cloud of dust had already darkened the sky in parts of Western Europe in February and caused the particle concentration to rise "a hundred times" higher than usual in many places.

Weather in Germany: Nature "explodes" due to rise in temperature - problems for allergy sufferers
Update from February 18, 4:53 p.m
.: In February temperatures around 20 degrees?
That sounds pretty record-breaking.
According to
Merkur.de
*, the
German Weather Service (DWD) has published
a list of the February record maximum temperatures in the individual federal states.
One look at it amazes.
Update from February 18, 2:18 p.m
.: The winter is counted!
This weekend the spring starts - in some regions of Germany with up to 20 degrees.
Mind you, plus 20 degrees.
“From the last weekend to the upcoming one, we have to deal with a temperature jump of 34 degrees.
That is very remarkable, ”says Alban Burster, meteorologist at
wetter.com
.
In the north and south-east, according to weather expert Burster, spring is still a little hesitant.
But on Sunday at the latest, spring will give its first guest appearance in all of Germany in 2021.
Subtropical warm air flows unhindered to us in Germany.
Two high pressure areas over Eastern and Southern Europe and a strong low pressure area over the Atlantic form a kind of corridor for this warm air, explains Burster.
The downside of the weather: "The sudden rise in temperature literally explodes the vegetation - much to the suffering of many allergy sufferers," warns the meteorologist.
An increased exposure to alder pollen can already be expected.
Hazel pollen is also already on the way.
The snow has not yet melted everywhere.
But spring
fever
with up to 19 degrees are also popular in North Rhine-Westphalia, reports

Merkur.de
*.
On Thursday night, however, the DWD warns of black ice from freezing rain on the border with Poland.
Also in the south - with widespread frost down to minus 5 degrees - freezing moisture can be expected in places.
Thursday starts foggy and cloudy.
From the Black Forest to the edge of the Alps, however, it can also be sunny for longer.
According to the DWD weather experts, only in the northeast is it initially more densely cloudy with some rain.
In the evening, new rain showers with fresh gusts come in from the west.
Update from February 16, 1:15 p.m
.: The freezing winter weather is on the decline.
The polar air pushes warm air out of Germany.
The cold stays the longest in the east.
Here it is still important to be careful: risk of black ice!
Because, on Wednesday night, rain is coming from the west, reports the German Weather Service (DWD).
In the southeast and in the low mountain range, the weather service warns again of black ice and lightly freezing rain.
From Western Pomerania to the Eastern Ore Mountains as well as in Eastern Bavaria there is light frost to -3 degrees.

“We'll get the warmest air masses possible for the time of year.
We also get a real spring high with lots of sunshine, ”predicts Jung.
With its extreme cold spell, the weatherman was right in the end.
After extremely cold, he follows his prognosis, now extremely warm.

From Sunday and at the beginning of the next week even to peak values of up to 20 degrees.
According to the current DWD trend forecast, a temperature increase of up to 15 degrees is possible on Sunday and Monday.
It remains to be seen whether the spring high will build up so tremendously.
Update from February 16, 6:19 a.m
.: On the edge of low pressure areas on the nearby Eastern Atlantic, mild sea air flows into Germany.
Deep “Yukon” is slowly bringing Germany out of the permafrost.
The end of the Arctic cold spell goes hand in hand with black ice.
The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of black ice on Monday morning, especially in the eastern half of Germany.
According to the DWD weather experts, there is light snowfall in the far east and south-east.

DWD with urgent weather warning at the start of the week - "Stay in the house"
Update from February 15, 3:22 p.m.:

The railway also reported only a few disruptions on Twitter by the afternoon.
Because of the ice warnings, lessons were canceled in numerous regions of Lower Saxony.
There was a cold record in Marienberg-Kühnhaide.
In the place in the Ore Mountains near the Czech border, low temperatures of at least -29 degrees prevailed during the night.
Kachelmannwetter reported this on Twitter and spoke of the coldest night of winter.
Since Kühnhaide does not belong to the monitoring network of the German Weather Service (DWD), Dachwig in Thuringia was the coldest place in Germany with minus 23.3 degrees on Monday night.

DWD with urgent weather warning at the start of the week - "Stay in the house"
Initial report from February 15, 2021, 9.48 a.m.:
Offenbach - At the start of the new week, it can be dangerous again on Germany's roads.
The German Weather Service (DWD) has published a severe weather warning * and shows
numerous red-colored areas on
its warning map
(as of Monday, Feb 15, 09:01 a.m.)
.
Especially in western Germany, for example in the entire section between Bremerhaven in the north and Saarbrücken in southwest Germany, the DWD warns of dangerous black ice.
Freezing rain or drizzle could cause dangerous weather conditions, especially for drivers.
Special care is therefore required on the streets!
The reason for the dangerous weather situation is the foothills of a strong Atlantic depression that spreads to Germany.
According to the DWD, it initiates a “significant change in weather” and brings significantly warmer sea air with freezing rain to Germany.
The warning is initially valid until at least 5 p.m.

Weather in Germany: DWD with urgent appeal because of black ice - "Stay in the house"
Because of the considerable dangers for both motorists and pedestrians, the DWD calls on the population to stay at home in such black ice conditions.
“There are severe disabilities in road and rail traffic.
Avoid Driving!
Stay in the house! ”
Was the urgent appeal of the DWD.
The DWD also identifies danger areas in the east.
Here the weather service warns of severe frost at temperatures between minus 10 and minus 15 degrees.
In addition, drivers are warned of possible snow drifts that could be associated with the onset of snowfall in the evening.
Weather in Germany leads to slipperiness: Advance warning from the DWD
In the middle of Germany
(see orange dashed areas in the warning map)
dangerous weather conditions can also arise.
Here the DWD issued advance information on Sunday evening.
“During the course of Monday, precipitation will come from the west.
At first, these sometimes fall as snow, but quickly turn into rain.
As a result, black ice must be expected on the frozen ground.
In some cases, considerable restrictions in rail and road traffic are to be expected, ”it says.
The weather service wants to point out the possible dangers at an early stage, but cannot yet precisely delimit the affected areas.
The information is therefore updated in the course of the day, according to the DWD.
The north and east of Germany was already hit by the heaviest snowfalls in decades.
Such conditions are not to be expected this week, but the warnings of the DWD should still be taken to heart by the population.
Weather in Germany: After black ice it gets milder - spring is approaching
As the week progressed, the DWD predicts that it will be increasingly mild.
In initially changeable conditions with rain, the temperatures rise to up to 14 degrees by the weekend.
In the west, even highs of 17 degrees could be reached on Sunday.
In addition, hardly any precipitation is to be expected.
Spring is in the starting blocks.
