The head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian State Duma, Leonid Slutsky, confirmed that the new sanctions imposed by the European Union on Russia will lead to a dead end in relations between the two sides and will be answered.
In statements to reporters, reported by TASS, Slutsky explained that the new European sanctions under the pretext of the Alexei Navalny case represent a new step towards further deterioration of relations, and it will not pass without a response on our part, adding that “Brussels is constantly following an approach that leads to a decline in mutual dialogue with Russia, using excuses and provocative justifications. And it was agreed upon ... and this matter cannot in any way make any normalization of relations easy.
Slutsky stressed that the European Union countries, with their approach, "are pushing in partnership with Moscow to a dead end ... and the way out of that is only by moving away from the policy aimed at containing Russia."
The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in the European Union Josep Borrell announced the approval of the European Union foreign ministers at a meeting yesterday to expand sanctions against Russia under the pretext of the Navalny case, and the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that this step was frustrating and considered "interference in Russia's internal affairs."
