There is outrage in Colombia and Peru over a video that went viral and began to circulate since February 15 on social networks.

The images show when a young man is thrown from a bridge by unidentified people after claiming he was Peruvian.

The event appears to have occurred in Colombia.

When the family members of Silvano Cántaro, a 19-year-old Peruvian, saw the video, they say they recognized him as the victim of the brutal attack, according to local Peruvian media.

CNN has decided not to show the video in its entirety on any of its platforms.

Immediately the alarms of the authorities of the two countries went off.

This weekend the Metropolitan Police of Medellín confirmed the discovery of a body with characteristics similar to those of Cántaro, in an abyss under a bridge in the town of Mercaderes, in southern Colombia.

Valle del Aburrá Police Commander General Pablo Ruiz said they are working to establish the identity of the person.

Several relatives of Cántaro traveled to Medellín on Monday, according to Colombian police.

This is to help establish or rule out that it is the same person.

The relatives of the young man, who had been in the capital of the department of Antioquia at the beginning of the month, told the Peruvian media that they had not heard from him since February 10 and were in anguish.

They also explained that the victim had traveled to Medellín to buy clothes and resell them in his country to earn some money for his livelihood.

What happened after his last call to the family is still unknown.

In Peru there have been demonstrations in rejection of this fact, described as aberrant by authorities of both countries.

Although the circumstances of the crime have not been determined and the attackers have not been identified, many on social media and in the streets of Peru maintain that the attackers' accent is Venezuelan, something that CNN cannot confirm.

For this reason, the demonstrations have ended in front of the headquarters of the Venezuelan embassy in Lima.

There the participants have asked for the facts to be clarified and justice done.

CNN has not been able to establish whether the video was recorded by one of the assailants.

Nor what could have happened before and after the events.

Several violent incidents between Peruvian and Venezuelan citizens in both countries make the authorities fear for possible outbreaks of xenophobia even worse.
