In Europe they seized 23 tons of cocaine destined for the Netherlands, the official Paraguayan news agency reported this Wednesday.

Of the total, 16 were found in the port of Hamburg (Germany) and the rest in Antwerp (Belgium).

The cargo allegedly came from Paraguay, according to this source.

For the next few hours, more details are expected from the European authorities, according to a press conference by the Paraguayan Interior Minister, Arnaldo Giuzzio, who went to the Government Palace on Wednesday to inform President Mario Abdo Benítez about the finding. of the cocaine shipment allegedly originating from Paraguay in the German port of Hamburg.

Giuzzio assured that Paraguay already knew that it was en route.

"The information is that several containers were already en route that could eventually have drugs, so they contacted many authorities in the region and also the ports that could eventually receive these cargoes," confirmed the minister after the audience with the president.

In this regard, he stated that the National Anti-Drug Secretary (Senad) together with the Public Ministry are facing parallel raids, for which results are awaited.

Likewise, the security agencies also hope to have more details of the procedure that was carried out by the German police and customs.

According to the minister, it is very difficult for said cocaine load to have been fully processed in the country, which means that, if it has been shipped in Paraguayan ports, it must also have been stored at other points.

"Many times they get contaminated on the way or there are also cases of triangulation," Giuzzio said.

In addition, he added that the country should allocate greater resources for the incorporation of technology to strengthen national security and defense.

He said that for this, a national plan is being worked on that will soon be sent to the Congress of the nation.
