The Unterföhring community is working on its new town hall.

The planning should now move forward.

Unterföhring

- After a good 50 years, the Unterföhring town hall is getting too narrow.

The community wants to build a new building in the Unterföhringen town center (UFO) and plan it with foresight.

The administration is now exploring the space requirements.

In the development plan, a stand-alone building with five floors and possibly with an open roof landscape is envisaged, with a maximum floor area of 6,800 square meters.

It will protrude over the surrounding three-storey buildings.

An initial query in the administration revealed a space requirement of around 5000 to 5400 square meters, the old town hall has around 3900 square meters.

“You should keep space,” said Mayor Andreas Kemmelmeyer (PWU).

That turned out to be correct in 1974, when the then mayor Ernst Eckhardt initially rented the upper floors of the newly opened town hall; the administration only moved in here years later.

Administration and staff council develop space allocation

The “New Town Hall Unterföhring” working group was set up for the further planning steps, which was decided by the local council.

Representatives of the municipal council groups, the administration and the staff council are now developing the room program and ideas on the subject of "digital working environments".

Whether after the pandemic workplaces will continue to be located in the home office, how much space is required for the archive, whether processes in the town hall will be re-regulated and waiting areas centralized, all the working groups to discuss with experts.

Another question is whether the local council of the future will have 30 seats instead of the previous 24 seats.

That would be the case if Unterföhring were to have over 20,000 inhabitants.

In a few months, the room plan should be determined so that an architectural competition can be advertised.

The local council is also considering whether a restaurant, which should only be built in the second phase of construction, is preferable.
