A new forecast released Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) projects between 526,000 and 548,000 coronavirus deaths in the United States by March 20.
This forecast is one week longer than previously reported, but the projected number of deaths has dropped.
Typically, each new CDC forecast projects a higher number of deaths over a longer period of time.

The previous forecast, released on February 17, projected up to 559,000 coronavirus deaths by March 13.
At least 502,698 people have died from COVID-19 in the United States, according to information compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
