This February 24 marks two centuries since the proclamation of the plan that, seven months later, culminated in the independence of Mexico.
It is an obligatory commemoration, but uncomfortable.
The man who led the independence army in 1821 had been a commander who fiercely fought those who previously fought for independence and committed crimes against the civilian population, for not referring to the business done under his military position.
Once independence was obtained, Agustín de Iturbide was crowned emperor thanks to military pressure and popular unrest.
