Faced with student precariousness, reinforced by the health crisis, several municipalities have launched initiatives, such as Poissy, which

Walking around a large platform stacked with fresh fruit, cereals and cartons of milk, Vanessa Hubert wonders.

Since 2 p.m. this Tuesday and the launch of a food distribution for the 147 students of the Geneviève-Brousset university residence, in Poissy, the education and early childhood assistant has only received two people.

“Students need to understand that it's solidarity, not pity,” she explains.

We have fruit juices, compotes, cookies, chocolate, fresh bread, pasta… ”

Faced with the difficult situation faced by students with the health crisis, cities are mobilizing.

Like the town hall of Poissy, which is committed to collecting foodstuffs not consumed in the canteens of schools and leisure centers (Childcare center, Mandela and Montaigne colleges), from its service provider Elior.

At the entrance to the dedicated room, the students watch shyly, wondering if they can go inside.

“It's difficult to come and get food, there is also a question of pride, believes Vanessa Hubert.

It has to become customary.

“Deprived of odd jobs and depressed by distance learning in times of Covid-19, these young people need it as rarely.

"Between work and lessons, I am totally exhausted"

In addition to food, the town hall offers a surprise box (one for girls and one for boys), which can contain hygiene products, books ... Some companies have also decided to join the movement.

“We have yoghurts in a cooler because we are waiting for a fridge offered by Pro & Cie, in Poissy.

This means that young people will have their dairy products directly available here.

A variety of products to satisfy even the biggest appetites.

This is particularly the case of Davy, third beneficiary of the afternoon and great sportsman: “The thing with me is that I eat a lot.

When I really spend myself, I have to compensate.

It is important to have this food, calorie and energy support.

"

Alternating in systems and network administration, Davy admits that he really needs it.

“Between work and school, I'm totally exhausted and I don't necessarily have time to go shopping,” he says.

It's really great to be able to refuel for the week.

"

Help planned "for everyone"

Every week, precisely, this distribution will take place in the same place, between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

An organization based on living together.

"Each student can come every week, and take as much food as he wants," says Vanessa Hubert.

The principle is that with an apparitor from the city, young people go and collect the foodstuffs put aside for a whole week, and bring them here.

Then, a young person in CAPE (Autonomy contract for student Pisciacais), who receives a grant from the city (between 100 and 400 euros) and who owes the city volunteer hours in return, will make the distribution to other residents. students.

When suddenly Nora arrives.

“It's great,” smiles this student.

I told myself that it was for people who needed it more, so I walked by without stopping, until the assistant called us in the halls to tell us that it was for everyone.

It's great !

"

Vanessa Hubert does not hide it, the objective is to let the students manage this initiative themselves.

"For the moment, we stay on site, the guard notes the names of those who take, but we want everyone to understand that it is not worth taking ten packages of pasta each, since the distribution takes place every week.

»To bring more than food: responsibilities.

FOOD BOXES, CALL NUMBER ... DIVERSIFIED AID

In Carrières-sous-Poissy, the town hall has chosen the same initiative as the City of Poissy: food distribution.

In Montigny-le-Bretonneux, a telephone number (01.39.30.30.20) has been set up to answer the questions, fears and needs of students.

But these are not the only initiatives taken in the municipalities of Yvelines.

In Villepreux and Clayes-sous-Bois, residents are invited to set up solidarity boxes for students.

Foodstuffs, hygiene products, a word of encouragement or a voucher ... This solidarity initiative was launched by the two towns in partnership with the parish of Villepreux and the association of Muslims of Clayes-sous- Wood.

Since February 12, it has already received about fifty boxes filled with food.

"We harvested a lot of pasta, rice, hygiene products, it was a first and it works well," says the association.

For donors who do not have time to go shopping, the structure also accepts cash donations.

“This sum will be used to buy vouchers and books for young people.

"

For those who wish to make a gesture, you can deposit your donations until February 28 at the parish hall of Villepreux (Saint-Vincent-de-Paul church, 2 bis, rue du Prieuré-Saint-Nicolas) or in the premises of the association of Muslims of Clayes-sous-Bois (15 allée Ombrelle-Rouge).
