Italy and Austria far behind: this holiday destination is more popular than ever among Germans

The rising temperatures and spring fever are slowly awakening the Germans' holiday spirit again.

But which travel destination is the most popular for Easter 2021?

The corona pandemic is still throwing a spanner in the works of many vacation plans.

The travel industry still hopes that travel at Easter * is possible with hygiene measures.

But where would Germans prefer to go on vacation, should the regulations of the federal government allow it?

Easter holiday 2021: not Italy, not Spain - this is the most popular holiday destination for Germans

With all the travel warnings and entry restrictions, it is hardly surprising:

Germany is the Germans' favorite travel destination for the Easter holiday in 2021

Almost 76 percent want to spend their vacation in Germany - 47 percent more than in the previous year.

This has

resulted in

an evaluation of

1.5 million search queries

on the online booking portal for holiday homes, HomeToGo.

The search period was from December 1, 2019 to February 18, 2020 with check-in between April 1 and 18, with the search period from December 1, 2020 to February 18, 2021 with check-in between March 27 and April 8, 2021.

The second favorite holiday destination with 3.7 percent of searches is far behind

Italy

.

Compared to the previous year, around 35 percent fewer people looked for holiday offers here.

This is followed by the

Netherlands

with 3.62 percent.

Here the loss is even 72.89 percent.

The most sought-after holiday regions in Germany at Easter 2021 include the usual suspects:

But here, too, the search queries have fallen sharply compared to the same period in the previous year.

There are hardly any winners to be found in the statistics, which suggests that the desire to travel has decreased a little overall at Easter.
