After relatives of the hiker had not heard from him for several days, they reported the 30-year-old to the police as missing on Monday evening.
Last Saturday, the young man took the train on a mountain hike.
That day, the police reported that he had the last contact with his family.
His exact destination was not known at first.
However, the officials learned from an acquaintance that the 30-year-old might want to go to the Mittenwalder Hütte and the Gamseck in the Karwendel Mountains.

The officers immediately initiated a search.
The alpine task force of the police, the Mittenwald mountain rescue service and a police helicopter were also on duty.
The search party finally found the lifeless man in the area of the Arzgrube.
According to initial findings, the man fell from the direction of Gamseck over rugged rocky terrain.
An officer from the Alpine Task Force has undertaken further investigations into the exact cause of the accident.
A life-threatening leisure time fun took place at the weekend at the Eibsee: day trippers walked across the partly frozen lake - the police warned of a "false security".
