New York-Sana
Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Poliansky, welcomed the US administration's withdrawal of the request to re-impose sanctions on Iran, which was submitted by former President Donald Trump, stressing that the situation around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran's nuclear program is manageable.
Russia today quoted Poliansky as saying during a press briefing that the US withdrawal of Trump's official request to re-impose international sanctions on Tehran made the situation clear, adding: “We all realize that there was no re-imposition, it was only in the imagination of our American friends.”
The Russian diplomat described Washington's move as "correct and very logical," noting the importance of understanding the mechanism for the United States' return to the nuclear deal from which the Trump administration withdrew in May 2015.
Poliansky also renewed his country's welcome to the results of the talks that the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, held in Iran recently, saying: “We were encouraged by the results of Grossi's recent visit to Tehran ... He came with specific assurances, so we are now very optimistic and we believe that the situation is controllable and completely stable. Irresponsible steps are not in anyone's interest.
