No air purification devices are purchased for the Marie Pettenbeck School in Wartenberg. Sounds surprising, but there is a good reason.

No air purification devices are purchased for the Marie Pettenbeck School in Wartenberg.

Sounds surprising, but there is a good reason.

Wartenberg - A piece of normality returned on Monday: The schools have reopened - at least for elementary school students and other graduating classes.

The mood on Monday evening was correspondingly relieved in the Wartenberg School Association, which is responsible for the middle school part of the Marie Pettenbeck School.

While school principal Michael Braun reported on the current situation, the meeting in the Strogenhalle also dealt with the purchase of air purification devices.

The committee voted unanimously against, for a curious reason.

As association chairman Christian Pröbst, Mayor of Wartenberg, had to report, the power supply is weakening.

The school is 49 years old, and so are the management.

So there were only two options left for him: "Either we don't buy the devices because we have very little electricity, or we upgrade the power supply."

A school without students is a tragedy.

But whether it would still be profitable now?

After all, the feasibility study for the expansion of the Marie Pettenbeck School is currently underway.

It is now so far that it will soon be presented to the school association in a four-hour session, as Pröbst announced.

After that, the study will also be a topic in the council meetings of the municipalities of Wartenberg, Berglern, Langenpreising and Fraunberg.

Josef Sedlmaier said: "We might tear the lines out now and then have to start all over again."

The state subsidy for the devices is up to 50 percent and a maximum of 1750 euros per room.

During the consultation, the association representatives made it clear that they would purchase the equipment, but not under these conditions.

Fraunberg's mayor, Hans Wiesmaier, emphasized that it was by no means the case that Wartenberg would then be the only facility without an air filter.

Only around half of the 26 municipalities and cities in the district will rely on it, according to the chairman of the local council association.

Wiesmaier emphasized: “Our rooms can be adequately ventilated.” He also knows schools where the space is a third less than in Wartenberg.

He was astonished by the tenor that suddenly every classroom should have air purification devices.

“Without the power factor, we would have made our way to the purchase.

But that's not a catastrophe now, ”Wiesmaier clarified.

The topic is highly political, said Berglern's community leader Anton Scherer.

“But it is done at the moment when it cannot be implemented.” You just have to ventilate accordingly.

In this regard, CO2 traffic lights, with which the school is fully equipped, are helpful, as headmaster Michael Braun reported.

Six weeks of distance training - that was "tough for everyone", he looked back on the recent past.

The pressure has increased, also on the work of youth social work.

Distance teaching using the online platform “Schulmanager” (Pröbst: “a good investment”) is going well, according to Braun.

And the classes that are currently allowed to come to the school can also come in full, the rector made clear with regard to space and alternating lessons.

The emergency care may be offered in the 5th and 6th grade, 15 children are currently taking advantage of it.

According to Braun, teachers in both elementary and middle school are challenged “across the board”.

He is therefore happy that his house has already received two school assistants through the government of Upper Bavaria and that a third is still to come.

If a class is divided into two rooms, these assistants take over one of them.

Braun criticized the short-term nature of government decisions.

If the alternating lessons should not be missed in the event of any further measures, "then that's the way it is," said Braun relaxed.

"Everything went really well" with digital lessons.

In many households, the champagne corks popped at the start of classes on Monday, said Braun.

"A school without students is a tragedy," he said.

Pröbst announced that offers regarding WiFi equipment were being obtained.

The school does not currently have one.

According to him, one possibility would be that the corresponding device is only rented, not bought.

The background to this is, of course, the upcoming expansion work.

At the meeting on Monday, the school association also discussed its budget.

A report will follow.
