The Agricultural Sector Development Forum (Challenges and Opportunities), held today at the Ebla Hotel in Damascus, provided an important opportunity for those involved in agricultural affairs to discuss the reality of the agricultural sector, the obstacles and challenges facing its advancement, the mechanisms for overcoming these challenges, and put forward future visions for the organization and development of agricultural production, in both its plant and animal parts.
The head of the Damascus branch of the Veterinarian Syndicate, Dr. Luay Muhammad, stated that their participation in the forum aims to present the measures taken during the last period to address the problems of breeders such as securing feed and its supplements and veterinary medicines. He said, “Syria has not recorded any epidemiological problems” in livestock during the past period, and we seek cooperation with breeders and financiers to achieve High production reflects positively on lower prices.
Director of one of the veterinary pharmaceutical companies, Dr. Muhammad Radwan Abdeen pointed out the need for the private sector to have an important role in the next phase and support it with decisions that facilitate its economic and financial movement, while the advisor and technical expert, Abdul Rahim al-Lulu pointed out that the goal of his participation is to contribute ideas related to the development of human cadres working in the agricultural sector Improving livestock and manufacturing new types of feed.
And from the Arab Center for Studies of Arid Zones and Arid Lands (ACSAD), Dr. Hassanein Al-Shalchi said that the center is participating in the forum with its experiences to contribute to drawing agricultural policies and restructuring the organization of the agricultural sector.
Mohamed Jenin, agent of the Belgian company (Intraco) specialized in feed supplements and herbal medicines, pointed to the need to come up with ideas that contribute to supporting the local agricultural product to dispense with imported materials and to provide facilities for the return of breeders to work in the next stage. Between the agricultural engineer, Manaf Al-Akkad, the necessity of networking public and private institutions and civil organizations To develop the agricultural sector in order to carry out its tasks and provide services to farmers.
In turn, the Director General of the Feed Foundation, Abdul Karim Shabab, explained that the goal of the forum is to find legislative, legal, administrative and financial solutions to the difficulties facing the agricultural sector and to secure the requirements for its rise to ensure the production of a large part of the foodstuff and to dispense with its import and secure the largest amount of feed to advance the livestock sector, especially poultry.
The General Director of the Agricultural Cooperative Bank Ibrahim Zaidan revealed that the mechanisms of agricultural production support should be reconsidered to be focused on the final product. "The bank provides economic and social support to farmers, but the support mechanism does not fulfill its intended purpose."
