Baghdad-Sana

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed his country's adherence to disarmament and non-proliferation agreements and treaties, stressing Iraq's support for establishing nuclear-weapon-free zones all over the world.

The Iraqi News Agency "INA" quoted Hussein as saying in his video speech to the high-level segment of the Conference on Disarmament that Iraq believes that universal accession to international agreements related to weapons of mass destruction and global compliance with them without discrimination and the elimination of these weapons is one of the main pillars. Which promotes peace and global stability, noting that the spread of the Corona pandemic and its repercussions on various fields reaffirms the importance of concerted efforts in facing common challenges and threats.

Hussein welcomed the recent agreement between Russia and the United States regarding the extension of the "New START" treaty for an additional five years, considering that this step is an impetus towards more regional and global calm and stability, calling on all member states to show political will and flexibility to bring the conference out of the stalemate it is going through. Two decades ago.

It is noteworthy that the Israeli occupation entity’s sole possession of weapons of mass destruction in the region and its refusal to join all major treaties and agreements related to prohibiting and preventing the spread of weapons of mass destruction renders it the main source of threat to peace and security in the region.
