Today, Iranian security forces foiled a terrorist attack in the northwestern province of Azerbaijan.
"A terrorist operation was thwarted and two terrorists were killed," IRNA news agency quoted the Iranian Ministry of Security as saying in a statement, noting that "the terrorists were about to carry out an assassination operation in the city of Piranshahr."
The statement pointed out that weapons, one hand grenade and some equipment that were in the terrorists' possession were confiscated.
The Iranian police chief in Tehran, Brigadier General Hossein Rahimi, announced earlier today that the attempt to carry out a suicide terrorist attack in the capital, Tehran, was thwarted.
