Summary.
On July 15, 2007, Bertrand Delanoë arrived at the Town Hall with his municipal team, riding brand new gray bicycles.
That day, the mayor of Paris inaugurated Vélib ', a self-service bicycle system designed by the French advertising company JCDecaux, responsible for setting up the system in the capital.
Vélib 'is quickly becoming essential.
In 2017, it had 290,000 users.
But a year later, the Smovengo company became the new manager and subscriptions fell by half.
The late delivery, repeated technical problems and striking employees paralyze the service.
After the crisis, Vélib 'is now better developed, but is not optimal.
The public authorities are putting pressure on the company, which deplores the lack of funding.
A battle emerges, highlighting a failing economic model.
In this episode of Source Code, Claire Duhamel and Sébastian Compagnon, journalists at Le Parisien, retrace the story of the Vélib 'fiasco.
