But now the Hamburger is getting out of big politics.
The parliamentary group vice announced on his website on Wednesday that he would no longer stand for the upcoming Bundestag.
"However, I decided against running again for personal reasons," the man from Hamburg wrote.
In the past seven years he has »always worked at the maximum limit.
So my son in particular had to stand back too often «.
That also had to do with "the fact that for a long time there was too little staff in our party and in our parliamentary group willing to be interested in the economic debates of our time," he criticized.
De Masi has been a member of the Bundestag since 2017.
Before that, the 40-year-old was a member of the European Parliament from 2014.
His future plans are still open.
"I trust that I will have an exciting job outside of Parliament," explained the financial expert.
