Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, received this morning the credentials of Sivanka Darsha Danapala, head of the mission of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Syria.
During the meeting, talks revolved around strengthening cooperation between Syria and the High Commissioner for Refugees and developing the relationship in a way that serves the goals of the High Commission, away from politicization and imposing the agendas of some countries on humanitarian work.
Danabala affirmed his intention to continue cooperation with the Syrian government, in a way that would contribute to achieving the goals of the commission by improving the conditions of the displaced and refugees and encouraging the safe and voluntary return of refugees to their homeland.
For his part, Minister Al-Miqdad praised the cooperation with the High Commissioner for Refugees and wished the new head of mission success in his duties, stressing the importance of coordination and continuous cooperation with the Syrian government to ensure the achievement of the desired results from the work of the Commission in providing the necessary support to the refugees and creating the appropriate conditions for their return to their homes, villages and cities.
From the Syrian side, the meeting was attended by Ambassador Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Sami Salama, Director of Protocols, Dr. Abdullah Hallaq, Director of the Minister’s Office, Dr. Ammar Awad, Associate Director of the Organizations Department, and Ruaa Sharbaji from the Minister’s Office.
