District - It has been announced for weeks, but now it's really happening: The corona vaccination campaign in the district is gaining momentum.

This is made possible because there is finally enough vaccine available: As reported yesterday, the district received 2500 doses for this week, and in the coming week it should even be 3000.

In addition, the vaccination process becomes more flexible.

So far, there have been mobile vaccination teams in addition to the two vaccination centers in Dachau and Karlsfeld, but they have only been in the old people's and nursing homes.

Since the vaccinations there have been completed and the very old residents including the nursing staff have been vaccinated, the mobile teams have free capacities.

In the short term, the mobile vaccination teams should therefore initially be deployed in facilities for the disabled and in the area of “assisted living”.

In addition, according to the district office, there should be a decentralized vaccination offer to all people from the health and medical sector by the weekend in a joint campaign with the resident doctors and the Johanniter Unfallhilfe.

By the latter, the authority means above all the “doctors, nursing services based in the district, the midwifery coordination office and other actors in the nursing and health sector”.

According to spokesman Wolfgang Reichelt, these were written to with the offer of being able to arrange vaccination appointments “on different days in different medical practices throughout the district”.

The aim: "To relieve the two vaccination centers and to be able to offer decentralized vaccination offers throughout the district for this heterogeneous group of people." According to Reichelt, the vaccine from Astra-Zeneca, which has so far only been approved for people under 60, is used.

In the medium to long term, that is clear, there should also be decentralized vaccination offers for those over 80-year-olds who do not live in a home but are no longer mobile enough to travel to a vaccination center, as Reichelt emphasizes.

Closing this vaccination gap, as those responsible for the health authorities have been emphasizing for weeks, has the highest priority, which is why mobile solutions are also being worked on here.

The mobile vaccination of employees in the health sector next weekend could not yet be viewed as a test run, as the district office spokesman Reichelt admits.

Reason: The vaccines approved for the very old or those over 70 years of age are - until now - not yet suitable for home visits;

The requirements for the storage of the vaccine are too high.

According to Reichelt, the mobile vaccination at the weekend is "rather a test run for early summer, when - with sufficient vaccine - it will hopefully be possible for the population to be vaccinated".

According to the health department, the number of new infections in old people's and care facilities has already fallen sharply.

"Most of the currently infected people are under 60 years of age, fortunately largely without a severe course," explains spokesman Reichelt.

The vaccinations in the homes were slowly making themselves felt.

According to Reichelt, however, the skepticism towards the Astra-Zeneca vaccine was also noticeable in the end: some citizens actually refused to be vaccinated with this vaccine, as Reichelt admits.

These dates could then have been "re-assigned immediately".
