Corona outbreak again in care facility - probably related to vaccination strategy

Another 14 infected seniors: the corona virus broke out in a day care facility in Grafing.

Because of a detail in the regulations, those in care had not yet been vaccinated.

Another corona outbreak in a care facility shakes the Ebersberg district - thanks to the vaccination, the drama seemed to be over, at least for this endangered area.

Now 14 visitors and three employees have been infected with the corona virus in the day care of the nursing home in Grafing.

The district office announced this on request.

A series test on Wednesday showed this number of cases.

Two of the senior citizens in care are therefore in the district clinic, how they are is unclear.

The office was also initially unable to provide any further information on the other sick people.

The outbreak is the main cause of the seven-day incidence in the Ebersberg district, which has risen to over 50.

There are currently no indications of the effects of a virus mutant.

Day care guests could not be vaccinated at the same time as residents of the nursing home

The problem with the outbreak: the guests of the Grafinger day care had not yet been vaccinated.

Regarding the vaccination priority, the legislature differentiated between inpatients in need of care and day care visitors.

It was therefore not the turn of the latter when the old people's homes were vaccinated.

This is now taking its toll.

Particularly tragic: A mobile team from the vaccination center was scheduled to visit on Thursday to catch up on the immunization.

The appointment was canceled.

The managing director of Pflegestern GmbH, Peter Haile, told the editors on the phone that it was still unclear who had carried the virus into the facility.

"We have a very rigid corona management and test like the devil," says Haile.

Nevertheless, an infection probably went undetected - perhaps also because a rapid test wrongly failed. 

Effective vaccination: Hardly any more cases in vaccinated old people's homes

If it weren't for the problem with the late vaccinated people in the day care facilities, one could say: The old people's homes are obviously over the top in terms of corona.

Current figures show that.

According to the district office, only around five percent of corona infections in the Ebersberg district occur among residents.

In mid-January this value was over 50 percent.

There have been no major outbreaks since the 23 deaths in Markt Schwaben at the beginning of January.

The vaccination is having an effect, which the health department also shows with cautious optimism from the authorities: “Overall, we are confident that outbreaks and serious illnesses can be minimized,” said office chief Annette Dame when asked.

Among the residents who have already received the second corona vaccination, there have been only two proven corona infections so far, according to the authorities with data as of Wednesday - tragically including one death: A 100-year-old resident is in connection with the shortly after the second vaccination Virus died.

A total of 123 residents from the district died of or with Sars-CoV-2.

Health Department Ebersberg: No complications after vaccination in the homes

No vaccination complications have occurred so far, the health department continues.

68 percent of the home residents in the district would have received the vaccination.

Together with the relatively many survived Covid diseases, one assumes an immunization above 90 percent.

Residents who have survived the virus in the past six months and are therefore considered immune, are otherwise seriously ill, are dying, or because the legal representative, usually relatives, do not consent to the vaccination are not vaccinated.
