The Prime Minister's intervention comes as the number of contaminations is on the rise again in France. However, it should not impose new restrictive measures.

Faced with a worrying health situation, the government wants to play transparency with the French.

It is for this purpose that Jean Castex will hold a press conference at 6 p.m. to take stock of the epidemic.

After a slight lull, the number of Covid-19 contaminations has started to rise again in recent days, to a level that is even worrying in ten departments.

To fight against this trend, part of the Alpes-Maritimes and Dunkirk (North) and its surroundings will be confined on weekends.

"We do not hesitate to take measures"

According to our information, however, the Prime Minister should not extend these restrictive measures to other territories this evening.

Jean Castex should especially detail the situation in the departments where the number of contaminations is soaring.

Consultations with local elected officials could be considered soon, if the situation does not improve.

Gabriel Attal, the government spokesperson already warned at the end of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday:

"We showed it last week in Moselle

(with a strengthening of border controls, editor's note)

, we showed it this weekend in the Alpes-Maritimes: as soon as the situation requires it, we do not hesitate to take rapid and strong measures and decisions, but for effective decisions ”

, he had stressed.

Jean Castex should also take stock of the vaccine campaign which should accelerate in the coming weeks.

Also to be expected: announcements on investments in monoclonal antibodies, seen as one of the important avenues for drug research against Covid-19.
