Reveals a slap and hides a slap: a house in the Warburg field

The two-level house was relatively closed in its first incarnation, with a master suite that included a bathroom and a small walk-in closet, and a small, modest yard.

The property has been rented for many years and has not been renovated.

When the family, which owns the property, decided to return to live in it, she hired the services of Zeldman, who would make a thorough renovation, inside and out, and turn it into a comfortable and pleasant family home.

The couple made it clear to Zeldman that they do not intend to expand any further, and that the house will be designed for them and their two young children (ages 4 and 8).

Zeldman redesigned the interior spaces in the house as well as the exterior space, opening them both to the maximum possible, while creating fascinating angles and interesting connections between the exterior and interior, between the floors and between the various spaces.

The double central space, which was partially closed, reopened into a gallery that looks down, bringing in more natural light from the top down.

With the use of framed glass in Belgian profiles, she has managed to create an airy and spacious space, whose boundaries are blurred but certainly provide the required intimacy and privacy.

The result is eye (and ear) contact between the two floors, interesting angles from the kitchen to the play area, and a reduction in the natural separation between the floors.

The master bedroom has been enlarged and enlarged with the help of the abolition of the closet, and its maximum opening to the bathroom.

In the center of the room, a huge double bed was placed, which immediately made the room look like a luxurious sleeping suite.

Zeldman did not want to detract from the amount of natural light penetrating the room, so she preferred a blackout curtain over a traditional window with blinds.

In front of the bed stands a large and beautiful bathroom cabinet, while the shower and toilet doors are elegantly camouflaged by dark glass, for the sake of privacy.

The bedroom has been separated from the play area and children’s rooms through the gallery, giving it an extra dimension of privacy and intimacy.

The dominant style in the house is a combination of rustic and modern with Scandinavian touches, thanks to the material richness and monochromatic color palette, which is broken only by the color shimmers of the works of art embedded in the various spaces.

On the ground floors, the floor is covered with smoothed concrete, which is well polished to expose its aggregates.

The result - a rustic look on temporary and effortless, parked, also stems from its flaws and the fact that it is not polished to thin.

The stairs of the house and the upper floor were covered with smoky wood parquet in a dark shade, with a coarse texture.

Emphasis in black, as in the profiles that frame the glass, helps to establish the monochromatic braces and emphasizes the materiality.

The wooden kitchen was also painted black, next to which was a wide window with black shutters, and a dark porcelain granite countertop-like marble was placed on the work island.

Next to it, the dining area, with a simple and clean Scandinavian-style table, surrounded by black chairs.

The rear façade of the house opened onto the garden which was enlarged and enlarged.

The result: a great sense of space, just as if the garden continues the house, with no blocking walls.

This feeling is also evident from the opposite direction, when sitting outside, and feeling inside the house.

The main seating areas are located next to the display case, in the indoor area, while additional and more remote seating areas seem to be immersed in green, thanks to the precise design of vegetation and trees, which provide privacy and a sense of isolation, alongside a strong and enveloping sense of nature.

Trees were planted intentionally, for concealment and privacy, without the need for aids such as fences on the outside or shutters on the inside.

Concrete pallets placed in the corner of the lot, following the exit from the living room, direct the exit - or entry - and offer a walking direction, like a small walk.

They can be seen from the children's rooms, and they invite, even from the outside, to go outside and enjoy nature.

Careful exterior planning ensured a deliberate reflection of a green landscape from every direction viewed from within the spaces of the house.

The natural landscape reflects a beautiful diffusion between the interior and the exterior and becomes a kind of work of art that is reflected through the various openings and invites outside, in any weather.

Bohemian Chic Atmosphere (Photo: Shai Gil)

The spaces of the house were characterized in a warm and pleasant way and with deliberate simplicity.

"I introduced a 'bohemian chic' atmosphere through collected objects, beautiful art objects. Instead of over-designing," Zeldman explains.

"We did not want to add wall coverings, but to maintain a relatively simple and clean character, with the highlight and interest provided by the art and furniture items. These flatter and match the careful planning, offering proper flow in the home areas, without overloading unnecessarily."
