Gymnasts accuse coach John Geddert of abuse 2:23
(CNN) -
John Geddert, who was the coach of the U.S. women's gymnastics team at the 2012 Olympics, faces charges of organized crime, human trafficking, criminal sexual conduct and lying to a police official, according to state court records. from Michigan.
Geddert is the former owner of the renowned Michigan team called Twistars Gymnastics Club.
It was one of the places where Larry Nassar, the disgraced former gymnastics doctor, admitted to abusing young female athletes.
In 2018, Nassar was sentenced to up to 175 years for his decades of abuse.
Even after the US Olympic Gymnastics Federation fired Nassar in the summer of 2015, Geddert continued to support him.
In September 2016, Geddert was quoted as saying that Nassar is "an extremely professional doctor" who "goes the extra mile" for his gymnasts.
In January 2018, USA Gymnastics suspended Geddert.
The body did not detail why, but cited a provision in its statutes that allows for interim measures to "ensure the safety and well-being of the gymnastics community."
The following month, Michigan's Eaton County Undersheriff Jeffrey Cook confirmed that Geddert was the subject of an investigation after people complained about the former coach to authorities.
