Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed that Moscow considers the situation in Armenia an internal affair, expressing his hope that developments will be settled peacefully.
"During a phone call between Lavrov and his Armenian counterpart (Ara Ivazyan), the latter provided an explanation of the latest developments in Armenia, while Lavrov stressed that Russia considers what is happening is an internal matter for Armenia and expects that the situation will be settled in a peaceful way," TASS news agency quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement .
The Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced today the dismissal of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Onik Kasparian and said in a statement, "The dismissal papers of Kasparian and his deputy were signed before the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces issued a statement calling for my resignation."
Pashinyan described the statement of the General Staff as an "attempt at a military coup," calling on his supporters to gather in the (Republic) Square in the center of the capital Yerevan.
