The corona pandemic does not seem to have dampened the Germans' desire to travel, but rather stimulated it.

The majority want to travel again as soon as possible.

At the moment, life for many Germans is largely happening within their own four walls.

Numerous vacation plans have been dropped in the past year due to travel warnings and restrictions.

And even now it is not yet certain whether, for example, an Easter holiday can take place.

Nevertheless, many Germans are apparently still busy planning their next trip.

This was the result of the "Vacation Deprivation Study" by the online travel agency Expedia, which examined trends and attitudes regarding the subject of vacation and vacation behavior.

Holidays in 2021: Germans would prefer to travel in the first half of the year

Despite travel warnings and a lack of predictability,

73 percent of Germans plan to travel again in the first half of 2021

.

However, there is a lot of uncertainty: 23 percent want to wait for the vaccination situation before they can book.

As soon as the situation allows, you should travel all the more.

19 percent of German citizens feel the need to make up for "lost vacation time".

In the past year, employees in Germany only took 23 days of vacation - usually 27 days.

That is why the Germans want to plan five more days - a total of 28 days - for their vacation this year

.

This is hardly surprising when you consider that at the same time 87 percent of the study participants firmly believe that regular vacation is important for mental and physical health.

The majority (78 percent) of Germans value their vacation significantly more after the previous year than before.

But Germans don't just want to plan more vacation days: 68 percent of those surveyed keep a travel bucket list with their desired destinations, which for 44 percent of participants has become even longer since the beginning of the pandemic.

Almost half of Germans (44 percent) are even willing to spend more money than planned on travel.

Germans love to travel: where should their holidays go in 2021?

This year it is not necessarily the holiday destination that plays the leading role for Germans, but the "holiday feeling".

That is why a relaxed time on the

Baltic Sea, on Mallorca or in the Bavarian Forest is

enough for German citizens

.

There are only a few long-distance travel destinations among the eleven most popular travel destinations that Expedia identified in the search period from January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020.

The Maldives, Dubai or New York alone arouse enough interest to accept a longer journey.
