The first ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Israel, Muhammad al-Hajah, will arrive in Israel this coming Monday to begin his term, senior officials in Israel and the United Arab Emirates have said.

On Tuesday morning he will submit his charter to President Reuven Rivlin.



Al-Hajah will pay a five-day visit during which he will hold introductory meetings with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi and other senior officials.

The ambassador will arrive with a small team to try and conclude on a location for the UAE embassy and the ambassador’s home.

The new ambassador has in recent years served as the head of the office of UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah Ben-Zayed.

Al-Hajah, 40, is an economist by education and before joining the Foreign Ministry served in several positions in the business sector.



About two weeks later, the new ambassador opened a Twitter account in which he tweeted in Hebrew.

The account has so far gained close to 30,000 followers.

Earlier this week, al-Hajah met with the interim head of the Israeli embassy in Abu Dhabi, Eitan Na'a, and last week met with the Israeli envoy to the Gulf, Zvi Hefetz.
