Underpass for bypass

Those who want to hike or cycle from Weßling to Wörthsee either accept detours or have to cross the state road.

The construction of an underpass has therefore been under discussion for some time.

Weßling's councils dealt with the subject on Tuesday evening.

Weßling

- 42 passages were dug for the frogs on Weßling's 3.3 kilometer bypass.

That's a good thing.

What is less pleasant for walkers and cyclists, however, is that the popular hiking trail from the Weßlinger sports field to Steinebach is suddenly interrupted by the new state road.

The circular hiking and farm path from Steinebach and Weßling was led further south with a bridge over the new state road.

Now an underpass is to be added to the overpass.

Talks on this topic between the two municipalities and the Weilheim State Building Authority took place as early as 2019.

"It was agreed that the two municipalities would implement an underpass for pedestrians and cyclists using a municipal special building load and that the building authority would support the municipalities in applying for, planning and creating technical information," said the draft.

Special construction load means nothing other than that the municipality bears the costs.

“Minus possible subsidies from the Free State,” emphasizes Mayor Michael Sturm.

The state building authority has already signaled its approval, he said.

The implementation would of course have been easier as part of the construction of the bypass, says Sturm.

"The plan approval decision could have been changed relatively easily," he said.

In his eyes, however, the fronts between Weilheim and Weßling were already quite hardened at this point.

“Everyone defended their position too strongly.” One for the underpass, the other against.

But as the saying goes: good things take time.

Weßling's councilors unanimously instructed the administration on Tuesday evening to determine the associated costs and to clarify the legal side, because so far the project had also failed because the path was not dedicated.

Once all questions have been resolved, the municipal council will consult again.

The aim, however, is to implement the project as soon as possible.

The municipality of Wörthsee is also very interested in an underpass at the said point, as Wörthsee's mayor Christel Muggenthal confirmed yesterday in an interview with Starnberger Merkur.

The sporty mayor walks regularly on the forest path to the neighboring community, where she then enjoys an ice cream by the lake.

She also uses the dirt road, which ends at a gap in the guardrail or continues on the opposite side offset by 100 meters.

“As I cross, I always think to myself: It'll be fine.” But she is also surprised that nothing has happened at this point.

"Fortunately, the road is not so busy." Muggenthal can well remember initial discussions with the then Mayor of Weßling, Michael Muther, and the Weilheim State Building Authority, and a solution for this position had already been an issue in the local council.

Whether and to what extent the municipality of Wörthsee will participate in the underpass, "that depends on the plans and costs".
