U.S. diplomats in China have undergone rectal examinations for corona
Washington has formally filed a protest in Beijing after several officials said they were required to perform the test, which is supposed to better detect the virus' remains.
China's foreign ministry has denied the allegations in a statement issued Friday stating "Similar, baseless allegations concerning Russia's intelligence have been made more than once.

U.S. diplomats have been required to undergo rectal tests to detect the corona virus, U.S. media reported.
Beijing, for its part, denied today (Thursday) that it requires U.S. representatives working in its territory to undergo these tests, which some experts say are increasing the ability to detect patients with the virus.
Several cities in China began conducting these tests last month, ahead of the start of the Chinese New Year.
According to a report in the Washington Post last week, several faculty members complained to the State Department that they had passed the tests.
A State Department spokesman said yesterday that Washington "has never agreed to this type of testing," noting that a firm protest on the issue has been forwarded to China's foreign ministry.
The State Department said Beijing explained that the tests were "done by mistake."
Although China has managed to take control of the plague, it has experienced several local outbreaks in recent months and is taking firm measures to prevent them from spreading.

Li Tongzeng, a respiratory disease specialist from Beijing, explained last month that rectal tests can be more effective in identifying patients because the remnants of the virus are easier to detect in the gut or feces than through routine tracheal tests.
However, he stressed that the tests are only required for a certain group of people, such as those in solitary confinement.
