Höhenkirchen or Hohenbrunn?

Tomorrow the school administration association will decide in which municipality the urgently needed new secondary school will be built.

This should also end a month-long and in part very emotional discussion about the optimal location.

Höhenkirchen / Hohenbrunn

- The Neubiberg secondary school is bursting at the seams.

Therefore, the school administration association wants to build another secondary school in the southeast of the district as quickly as possible.

The favorite location was Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn for months.

For this location there is already a positive district council resolution and the green light from the Ministry of Culture.

But because the town council of Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn decided not to place the secondary school next to the grammar school at the train station, but on the outskirts next to the Erich-Kästner elementary and middle school, resistance is stirring in the association.

The critics complain about the poor connection due to the location on the outskirts and the forecast additional costs in the millions.

So it is fitting that the Hohenbrunn community is considering stepping in as a school location.

The Hohenbrunners lure with a building plot near the train station, but are at the beginning of the planning.

Nevertheless, the members of the school administration have decided to examine the Hohenbrunn location more closely.

Therefore, the final location decision was postponed at the end of last year.

For example, one hopes for a clear signal from the ministry as to whether the school could also be realized in Hohenbrunn.

The locations

For fear of a traffic collapse in the town center and because one hopes for synergy effects with the Erich-Kästner-Schule, the Höhenkirchen municipal council decided on the location Brunnthaler Strasse.

Negotiations with the property owner have been concluded and all necessary decisions have been made in the municipality.

“The Zweckverband gets the school served on a silver platter,” says councilor Otto Bußjäger (UB), who has been fighting for the secondary school for years.

Hohenbrunn throws a piece of land in the balance, which is north of the B 471 and west of the railway line.

In addition to the secondary school, a new Montessori school and housing could also be built there.

There are no concrete plans yet.

Hohenbrunn's councilor Pauline Miller (Bürgerforum), who wants to bring the secondary school to Hohenbrunn, hopes that Mayor Stefan Straßmair (CSU) will announce a positive result of the property negotiations at the council meeting this evening.

“This is the only way we have a chance,” she says.

Tonight, the Hohenbrunn municipal council should also take the decision in principle that the school should come to Hohenbrunn.

The connection

A secondary school on Brunnthaler Straße would be around 900 meters away from the train station in Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn.

The quickest way to walk is along Esterwagnerstrasse.

The Rosenheimer Straße, a state road, has to be crossed.

The bus stop at the Erich-Kästner-Schule can be reached from the train station within four minutes.

Pupils from Brunnthal could also take the 216/244 bus directly to the secondary school location.

The possible location in Hohenbrunn is just 100 meters from the train station as the crow flies.

However, the students have to somehow safely get over the main road or the tracks.

There is not yet a developed concept for this.

The costs

The school location on Brunnthaler Straße in Höhenkirchen is also criticized because a rough cost estimate commissioned by the Zweckverband showed that building a secondary school on the outskirts would be significantly more expensive at 125 million euros than the location at Höhenkirchen train station (103 million euros However, Höhenkirchen's mayor Mindy Konwitschny (SPD) believes that there is still significant potential for savings.

No cost estimate has yet been available for the Hohenbrunn location.

The question of time

"The fact is that we need a new secondary school - and as quickly as possible," says Ayings Town Hall chief Peter Wagner (CSU).

He fears that pupils from Aying could at some point be denied the opportunity to attend schools outside the district because there are increasing space problems there too.

The time factor speaks for the Höhenkirchen location.

The land-use planning there is so advanced that construction could start quickly.
