A heavily pregnant migrant set herself on fire in a refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesbos.

The 26-year-old Afghan woman was released from the hospital on Tuesday, the Ministry of Migration said.

According to the doctors at the hospital, the eight-month-pregnant woman suffered from psychological problems after allegedly learning that her application to leave Germany had been rejected.

According to information from ministry circles, however, it was a "misunderstanding".

Accordingly, the authorities had asked her to stay in Greece only until the birth of her child.

However, the woman did not understand this.

On Sunday, police said she took her two children outside and set fire to her tent and herself.

The flames were put out by other residents of the camp, the police and the fire department.

Because she started a fire in the tent, the 26-year-old now has to appear before the public prosecutor, according to police.

The temporary camp on Lesbos with around 6,000 asylum seekers was set up after the completely overcrowded Moria camp was destroyed by fire.

Camp residents and activists criticize the poor conditions in the camp, especially in view of the winter temperatures.
