A big entrepreneur is celebrating his birthday this Friday: Dr.

Hans-Wolfgang Tyczka turns 95. His career is unique - and has received numerous awards.

Geretsried / Icking - He was practically born with a flair for business, because Tyczka comes from an entrepreneurial family.

In 1905 his grandfather founded a brick factory in Tarnowitz in Upper Silesia.

When this part of Silesia had to be ceded to Poland in a referendum in 1921, the further development of the German family became more difficult.

Father Georg Tyczka left his hometown and dared a new beginning 350 kilometers west in Görlitz in Silesia.

There he founded the Georg Tyczka oxygen works in 1924 - the hour of birth of today's Tyczka company.

The head of the company was particularly interested in the welding and cutting technology, which was still in its infancy.

In 1934 he started supplying liquid gas, and two years later he opened the first bottling plant in Germany.

After the war, Georg Tyczka had to start all over again.

In 1947 he set up Industriegas GmbH in Schwarzenfeld in Upper Palatinate.

1958 son Hans-Wolfgang took over the sole management.

In 1962/63 a new plant was built in Geretsried and the company headquarters relocated from the Upper Palatinate to the Oberland.

A big moment was the opening of the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich.

More precisely, the lighting of the Olympic flame.

Tyczka employees took months of work to develop the three stadium torches and the hand torches for the relay race.

Twelve tanker loads of liquid gas were required to operate the large torch in the Munich Olympic Stadium alone.

To mark the opening of the Olympic Games, a torch relay led through Geretsried and made an honorary stop in front of the Tyczka company.

"A great thing," said the Ickinger once in an interview with our newspaper.

The torches were then a donation to the NOK President Willi Daume.

"I got a very nice tie with the Olympic rings for it," Tyczka said with a wink.

Crosses of merit, Dunant medals, Bavarian orders of merit: Tyczka is highly decorated

Numerous honorary positions and awards underline the commitment and competence of the jubilee.

He has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon and the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany.

In recognition of his life's work, Tyczka was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit in 1999.

In 2015 he received the highest award from the German Red Cross for his "exemplary social attitude": the Henry Dunant Medal in gold, which he had already received in 2005 in silver.

In terms of health, the senior boss is doing very well, according to company press officer Ulrich Hanke.

Of course, he still has an office in the headquarters on Blumenstrasse, even if, like many others, it is currently little used due to corona.

Although Tyczka no longer has an operational role, the 95-year-old is still very close to business.

He gives a lot of impulses to the companies and drives the further development of the entire group with its around 550 employees.
