So far, three corona vaccines have been approved in Germany.

Another against Covid-19 could now follow.

And already at the beginning of March.

Amsterdam - The European Medicines Agency - EMA for short - wants to recommend Johnson & Johnson's corona vaccine for approval on March 11th.

This is reported by the Bloomberg news agency.

It would be the fourth approval of a Covid-19 vaccine in the EU.

And the first that only needs to be injected once.

The EMA announced in mid-February that it would make a recommendation for the vaccine by mid-March.

The EU authority had received an application for conditional marketing authorization from the US pharmaceutical company.

In the United States, the US FDA released data on Johnson & Johnson's vaccine prior to emergency approval, and it sounds promising:

  • Only one dose is required for effective protection.

The vaccine can be stored in a normal refrigerator.

  • Against the Corona mutations, such as the South African (B.1.351) and the Brazilian variant, the vaccine seems to be only slightly weakened.

The FDA has already relaxed transport and refrigeration rules for the Biontech / Pfizer vaccine.

A signal towards Europe and also Germany.

Thanks to the uncomplicated storage, general practitioners could soon join the vaccination campaign.

This is planned for May at the latest.

Germany is still lagging behind when it comes to vaccination rates.

At first the vaccine was in short supply, now there are unused vaccine doses in the refrigerators.

Many are still waiting for a vaccination appointment.

The vaccination disaster will continue to pick up speed unless something changes quickly.

The capacity in the vaccination centers is limited.

But now corona vaccine production is increasing in Europe.

That is why the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) is also putting pressure on it.

Health Minister Jens Spahn and RKI boss Lothar Wieler dampen hopes for quick easing at the Friday press conference on the corona situation in Germany.
