Five profiles in technology and logistics with starting salaries starting at 35,000 euros

The pandemic has accelerated the digitization of companies and increased electronic commerce and with it the demand for professionals for these sectors

The economic and labor crisis derived from the global Covid-19 pandemic has caused many companies to accelerate their digital transformation processes, which were planned for horizons of five, ten or more years and could now be completed in a much shorter period of time.

This has made the professions related to said digitization processes (data analysis or R&D) –which were already among the best paid due to the scarcity of certain profiles– now trading up in salary matters.

But the pandemic is also drastically changing consumption patterns, causing a sharp rise in e-commerce, among other things.

This also causes the highest starting salaries to begin to be found in the logistics sector.

This is reflected in the 2021 Salary Trends report prepared by Randstad Research, the research service of this multinational human resources management company, after identifying different salary bands for 247 relevant positions in 13 sectors and professional areas.

The analysis of these salary ranges carried out in this report differentiates between different degrees of experience in the position and between large cities (Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Valencia, Seville and Malaga).

According to this study, there would be five professional positions that would have initial annual salaries with less than four years of experience that would amount to 35,000 euros per year or more.

Three of these profiles are in the logistics sector: Supply chain manager (between 45,000 and 55,000 euros per year and with between 1 and four years of experience);

commercial director of these activities (between 35,000 and 50,000 euros gross per year) and director of logistics (35,000 to 42,000 euros).

While the remaining two are in technological activities, such as the Key Account Manager, with a remuneration of between 35,000 and 50,000 euros per year;

and systems architect (between 35,000 and 40,000).

Although all these approximate salaries are for labor relations located in Madrid, Barcelona or Bilbao.

Since this study, which has analyzed the salaries of these three cities and those of Valencia, Seville and Malaga, has detected that in these last three localities, salaries are on average 9% lower.

Another issue highlighted by these experts is that the salaries of these professionals can double in just a few years, specifically, after six years of experience in the position, according to this analysis.

One of the reasons why salaries for these activities are on the rise is the greater demand from companies and the shortage of trained professionals.

For example, the information and telecommunications sector barely employs half a million workers in Spain, 2.4% of the total.

Thus, despite growing demand, the sector has barely seen its recruitment grow by 0.2%.

Although the conditions of the new hires are better than the national average, since to the higher salaries it is added that half of the new contracts of 2020 in this sector are fixed.

In the case of logistics and transport, it is one of the few sectors that exceeds one million workers in Spain, and in 2020 it is among the most dynamic, accounting for almost 8% of the total contracts made.

At the same time, the legal and tax sector stands out for being where salaries increase the most over time, doubling in a few years.
