In addition to traveling with peace of mind, citizens are more concerned about the convenience and speed of reaching their destinations. However, many districts in Hong Kong have traffic problems. For example, long-term traffic jams in Tuen Mun and Kwun Tong have caused a lot of dissatisfaction.

In order to improve the transportation facilities in the district and expand the transportation network, the Kwai Tsing District Council Transport Development Working Group conducted a study on the transportation construction and supporting facilities in the Kwai Tsing District last year. The results of the report were published today. Mainly with railways, the feasibility of setting up additional interchange stations in Kwai Tsing District and developing maritime traffic in Tsing Yi should be studied to increase flexibility and save travel time.

Explore four potential bus transfer stations

The Transport Development Affairs Working Group of the Kwai Tsing District Council carried out a study on transportation construction and supporting facilities in Kwai Tsing District in September last year, and hired Ho Wong Transport Consultants Co., Ltd. in November of the same year. The main purpose is to study whether Kwai Tsing District is An interchange station should be established, practicable supporting facilities such as regional bus interchange discounts or segmented fares should be studied, and the feasibility of developing maritime traffic in Tsing Yi should be studied.

The group invited citizens to conduct a questionnaire survey from December 14 to 21 last year, and finally successfully recovered 2,162 physical and electronic questionnaires.

At present, there are large bus interchanges on many major highways, but Kwai Tsing District is a mature area and it is more difficult to set up new interchanges.

The study pointed out that due to the current restrictions, consideration will also be given to setting up interchange stations at the current bus terminus or substations, and suggested four possible locations for potential bus interchanges, including Tsing Yi Chang'an Village, Kwai Chung Interchange, Tai Wo Hau Station and Tai Wo Hau Interchange .

The study concluded that the establishment of clear and easily identifiable transfer stations can facilitate passenger transfers. At the same time, the interchange of bus routes to and from different regions can be used to expand the service coverage of existing bus routes, and the fare concessions for transfers can also be used to reduce bus passengers The fare of the ride.

However, all four locations need to undergo improvement works, such as adding energy-reducing bollards, adding bus arrival display screens, etc., so that passengers can wait safely.

Add water taxi and electric ferry

In addition to land transport, the study also explored the feasibility of developing maritime transport in Tsing Yi.

In the past, the Tsing Yi Ferry Pier had a route from Tsuen Wan to Central. Since the service was closed about 20 years ago, the Tsing Yi Ferry Pier has also been suspended and renamed "Tsing Yi Public Pier".

District Councillor Wong Chun-tat of the Greenfield Constituency of the Kwai Tsing District Council pointed out that many residents of Tsing Yi hope that traffic can be diversified. It is suggested that if the Tsing Yi route is to be developed, water taxis or the "Electric Ferry Pilot Pilot Scheme" can be used to save the need to purchase ferry. Expenses, "I have seen that the boat ride from Tsing Yi to Tsuen Wan West actually only takes six minutes, and there is no traffic jam. Compared with the current land transportation, it is somewhat competitive. He believes that the "single-day trial" model can be used to observe public reactions. At the same time, it is possible to develop routes to outlying islands on weekends and revitalize dock areas for retail activities to help supplement income.

The chairman of the Kwai Tsing District Council’s Transport Development Working Group, Xu Qixiang, pointed out that the Tsing Yi Ferry Pier has been empty for many years. It is suggested that routes such as Tuen Mun and Sham Tseng can be piloted, and even daily ships can go to Kwun Tong, Tsim Sha Tsui, Central and other coastal locations where many citizens go to work. .

He believes that the government can boldly experiment with policies such as water taxis to increase the flexibility of traffic in various districts.

Tsing Fat Constituency District Councillor Liu Zijie said that Kwai Tsing District has used railway and land transportation for many years. In fact, the maritime resources are very rich. Currently, only short internal routes are available. However, the internal routes of foreign countries such as Sydney are very busy on weekdays. I hope the government And the Transport Department can re-examine and develop water transportation as soon as possible.
