Munich - The Swiss airport service provider Swissport is apparently planning drastic cuts at its subsidiary Swissport Losch in Munich.
The Corona * pandemic has led to a "dramatic decline in demand and thus also hit Swissport Losch with full force," a Swissport spokesman told Merkur.de * on Thursday evening.
At Munich Airport alone, the number of passengers handled by Swissport Losch fell by 75 percent last year.
The situation has recently worsened.
"In January and February 2021 we are around 90 percent below the previous year's values," it said.
Swissport spokesman does not rule out bankruptcy
In view of this development, the company indicated drastic measures at its Bavarian location.
"We are examining various options," said the spokesman.
According to a report by the Business Insider portal, Swissport is already preparing the bankruptcy of the Munich operating company Swissport Losch München GmbH & Co. KG.
This would mean that around 900 jobs would be closed.
However, the Swissport spokesman declined to comment.
Swissport Losch is a joint venture between Swissport International and the Losch Group in Stuttgart.
According to its own information, the company handles around 85,000 flights a year at Munich Airport.
At the second largest German airport, the company looks after around 40 airlines, including Lufthansa.
The services include loading and unloading luggage, sorting suitcases and transporting passengers between the terminal and the plane.
The largest flight handler in the Bavarian capital is the Munich Airport subsidiary Aeroground.
