Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced today his government's intention to lift the state of health emergency in six provinces in the country less than five months before the start of the Tokyo Olympic Games, as the rate of Coronavirus infections slows.
Agence France-Presse quoted Suga as saying in a statement today that “the state of emergency declared in early January in a part of Japan allowed to reduce the frequency of new infections,” noting that in light of the current conditions in some areas, “it was decided to lift the state of emergency on the 28 of February in six provinces ”.
Japan launched a vaccination campaign last week and 22,000 people from the medical sector received the first dose of the Coronavirus vaccine.
