Saudi Arabia's heir to the throne, Muhammad bin Salman, has confirmed the capture or assassination of journalist Jamal Hashukaji, who was assassinated at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in 2018, according to a US intelligence report released by the Biden administration this evening (Friday). Two and a half years by the previous administration.

The classification was removed in a way designed to reduce the damage to relations between the United States and Saudi Arabia, and over the course of the last night, President Joe Biden spoke with King Salman.

The two emphasized the old alliance between the two countries and promised to continue cooperating, among other things in the face of Iran's subversion in the region.

Washington is trying to harness Riyadh in support of its desire to return to the nuclear deal with Tehran.

Riyadh denies that Ben Salman, the de facto ruler of the kingdom, was directly involved in the assassination of the journalist who wrote critical columns against him in the Washington Post.

The prince was given indirect responsibility when he said it was done under his watch, so he bears some guilt.

The assassination team of Hashukaji, who was a resident of the United States after being forced into exile, was made up of Ben Salman's associates.

They dismembered his body, and its remains were never found.

"We estimate that Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman has approved an operation in Istanbul, Turkey, to capture or assassinate Saudi journalist Jamal Hashkoji, a report compiled by the National Intelligence Bureau and published on its official website." We base this assessment on the control of Saudi Arabia. "The regent for making decisions in the kingdom, for the direct involvement of his senior adviser and members of his security team in the operation, and for the regent's support for the use of violent means to silence opponents of exile regime, including Hashukaji."

Gets a cold shoulder from the Biden administration.

Riyadh initially denied the murder, but later changed its version and claimed he was killed by mistake, while trying to force him back into the kingdom.

The Saudis said the team acted on its own and that the regent was not involved.

A Saudi court has convicted eight people of murder, but international observers have said it was a farce.

Five of them were initially sentenced to death, but their sentences were commuted to 20 years after Hashukaji's relatives fell ill, according to authorities.

Biden has already decided to end military support for the Saudi coalition fighting Yemen, as part of what the White House describes as "rebounding" relations with Saudi Arabia.

In addition, the President of the United States will conduct relations with Saudi Arabia through the 85-year-old King, and not with his 35-year-old son as former President Donald Trump and his adviser Jared Kushner did, contrary to the diplomatic protocol.
