Geneva - Sana
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, called on the Saudi regime to respect freedom of expression and the right to peaceful assembly and to release those who were wrongfully detained.
Reuters quoted Bachelet as saying in a speech before the United Nations Human Rights Council that "there are people who are being unfairly detained in Saudi Arabia" asking the authorities of the Saudi regime "to draft legislative frameworks to support the rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association."
Experts in the field of human rights at the United Nations have repeatedly emphasized that the Saudi regime uses anti-terrorism laws to violate freedom of expression and silence opponents of its policies and mouths them in flagrant violation of international law that guarantees freedom of expression.
