Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin hosted a regular press conference on February 26. When he was asked by reporters about the approval of the non-binding resolution by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, he condemned the Chinese central government and the Hong Kong SAR government for promulgating and implementing the Hong Kong National Security Law. While waiting for the behavior, he called the US move a stark double standard.
Wang Wenbin said that China's position on Hong Kong-related issues is consistent and clear.
Since the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, Hong Kong has embarked on a major transition from chaos and governance. Hong Kong people no longer need to be threatened by turbulence and violence, and can better exercise their legal rights and enjoy full freedom in a safe environment.
He said that nearly 3 million Hong Kong citizens have voluntarily signed in support of the Hong Kong National Security Law. Nearly 70% of Hong Kong citizens believe that Hong Kong is safer and more stable after the implementation of the National Security Law. This fully shows that the Hong Kong National Security Law is popular.
Wang Wenbin pointed out that the accusation against Hong Kong’s National Security Law in the relevant resolutions of the US Congress completely violates objective facts and completely ignores the hearts of Hong Kong people.
The United States has dozens of laws related to national security, but the relevant resolutions oppose the Hong Kong National Security Law. This is a naked double standard and reflects the hypocritical nature of the United States.
Wang Wenbin emphasized that Hong Kong is China's Hong Kong. Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal affairs, and no foreign country has the right to interfere.
We urge the US to abide by international law and basic norms governing international relations, abandon double standards, earnestly respect China’s sovereignty, respect Hong Kong’s legal system, stop deliberating on Hong Kong-related resolutions, and stop interfering in China’s internal affairs through Hong Kong-related issues.
