The United States attacked pro-Iranian targets in Syria tonight (Thursday through Friday).

The attacks were carried out in response to a series of missile strikes carried out by pro-Iranian militias against US targets in Iraq.

Among the attacks carried out was missile fire at the US embassy this week in the green area of Baghdad.

This is the first known US military attack in the region since the beginning of President Joe Biden's term.

Among the sites attacked was the special border crossing built by the Revolutionary Guards near the border crossing to Gaim, which symbolizes the town of Buchmal in eastern Syria.

The crossing was used by the Iranian individual militias to transfer equipment, forces and weapons from Iraqi territory to Syria and according to various reports also served as the crossing to the nearby Imam Ali Revolutionary Guards base.

Pentagon spokesman John F. Kennedy said the attack was carried out under the direction of President Biden, not only in response to previous attacks but in order to prevent future attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq and Syria.

About two weeks ago, missiles were fired at the U.S. Air Force base at Barbil International Airport, the capital of the Kurdish autonomous region in northern Iraq.

The attack killed a U.S. contractor and wounded several U.S. Army soldiers.

No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the United States estimates that pro-Iranian militias in Iraq are behind the shooting.

Last week it was reported in the media affiliated with the opposition in Syria that the Revolutionary Guards moved missile launchers intended for underground operation through the Syrian border crossing and placed them at the Imam Ali base.

It was also reported that a large shipment of weapons was transferred to pro-Iranian militias active in the area, led by the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades.
