A man died in a violent fire in his apartment on the 1st floor of a building with six at 48 rue de la Varenne, in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, Friday evening.

No other victim is to be deplored.
No person was poisoned by the smoke according to a first assessment.
“The victim is an elderly man who had lost his wife some time ago, deplores Sylvain Berrios, the mayor (LR), who quickly went there.
Ten people will have to be relocated and are currently supported by the communal social action center (CCAS).
"
70 firefighters deployed
The alert was issued shortly before 8 p.m. and emergency services quickly deployed to prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of the building.

“It was really impressive.
There were vehicles everywhere, says a local resident who realized the tragedy when she saw dozens of emergency vehicles in the street, including a command post.
We wondered what was going on because we couldn't see the building from our home.

Around 10 p.m., the firefighters were still on site to clear the area and check that no resumption of the fire was possible.
