Will teachers have to perform saliva tests on their students?

2021-02-26T16:56:45.427Z

A "notice for the organization of the saliva collection", intended for a school principal, was published on the networks. In particular, it provides that teaching staff will be trained in “supervising tests” on students. What is it really ?

While the saliva testing campaign has been launched in schools in Zone A, some teachers are concerned about its implementation.

This week, the director of an establishment received a "

notice for the organization of the saliva collection

".

The latter provides in particular for the training of its staff in order to supervise these tests.

Following this publication, teachers and unions took action on social networks: will they really have to take samples from their students?

Le Figaro

takes stock.

On the note in question, we can indeed read that the samples will be taken "

by school staff, equipped with personal protective equipment

", previously trained by laboratory staff and accompanied "as

much as possible

" by a “

School nurse

”.

This directive was quickly returned to the hands of the SNUipp, the first first degree union.

Contacted by

Le

Figaro,

Guislaine David, her spokesperson, explains that it is impossible for teachers to perform these tests.

Imagine, out of a class of 28 students, 8 are not allowed to be tested.

How do you want a teacher to leave his class to go and equip himself, to take the tests.

Who will take care of the 8 remaining children?

»She calls out.

Beyond this situation, just performing the tests is complicated.

Take the example of a school trip.

There are always supervisors planned (parents or teachers).

The teacher cannot be alone to manage.

"

The Ministry of National Education told

Le Figaro

that "

there was never any question of a school teacher testing his students

".

He justifies this quack by a concern for communication.

The teachers will indeed be trained to supervise, but it is the health personnel of the national education or the emergency services, who will carry out these tests.

"

"We will still play on the sensitive chord and the guilt of teachers"

Guislaine David, spokesperson for SNUipp, the first first degree union

However, according to the spokesperson for the union, the cabinet of Jean-Michel Blanquer would have confirmed the first information.

"

The teachers may have to do them, but never have to

".

"

There will be pressure on the teachers

", worries the spokesperson.

Both from the institution, from the parents.

The teachers are going to feel obligated to take the tests, and they are going to do it for everyone's safety.

"

Guislaine David is indignant: “

We have been asking for these tests for six months, a month since we have the authorization, and no national framework has been organized.

"For her,"

the ministry does not know how it really happens on the ground

":"

we do not have the necessary staff, the nurses and school doctors are already very busy.

We will still play on the sensitive chord and on the guilt of teachers.

"

Concern for information or lack of organization, for the moment, in fact, no teacher has performed a test on his students since Monday.

Faced with the ambition to test 300,000 children per week, as announced by Jean-Michel Blanquer, the spokesperson for the union and the teachers remain perplexed.
