The Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman approved the operation to kill journalist Jamal Khashoggi in October 2018, according to estimates by the US intelligence services.

That emerges from a report that the office of US intelligence coordinator Avril Haines published in Washington on Friday.

Given the circumstances of the murder and the Crown Prince's control over the Saudi intelligence services, it is unlikely that the murder was committed without his knowledge, the report said.

Khashoggi was murdered by a special squad on October 2, 2018 in the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul.

His body has not yet been found.
