The German NGO Sea-Watch announced on Saturday that it had rescued 147 migrants in the Mediterranean off Libya as part of two rescue operations carried out by its ship, the “
Sea-Watch 3
”.

The organization picked up 102 migrants on Saturday morning crammed into an inflatable boat in distress, she said on her twitter account.
The day before, she had already rescued 45 migrants, including 15 minors, who were trying to reach Europe by sea, she added.
All are safe and sound.
The Sea-Watch 3 has participated in the rescue of more than 3,000 migrants since its commissioning in November 2017, according to data from the NGO.
The Marseille-based SOS Mediterranean organization reported at the beginning of February of the rescue of more than 400 people gathered on board its ambulance ship the Viking Ocean.

More than 1,200 migrants perished in 2020 in the Mediterranean, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
Despite persistent violence in Libya since the fall of Muammar Gadhafi's regime in 2011, the country remains an important transit point for migrants fleeing instability in other parts of Africa and the Middle East and seeking to win Europe.
